Philly shooting Done

Shooting of Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones concluded in the Philadelphia area on Saturday Dec. 15th. Production will resume in Jan. 2008 in New Zealand. This blog will keep you covered wit sources in New Zealand.

Here is a set report from the McDade Mall:

I actually got inside the mall tonight. Luckily my family has a few
connections in this town. Watched them film a scene with Susan Sarandon
and Saiorse Ronan in the diner. I managed to stay back at a respectful
distance and no one seemed to mind. I was able to watch the scene in a
couple of monitors behind some of the crew. And I can say that Susan
Sarandon walked right past me on her way to do the scene in a big brown coat and
a reddish brown hairdo. She still looks good.

The
actual scene was about 50 feet away from where I stood. I did see Peter
Jackson doing some directing from afar, and saw Sarandon getting her makeup
fixed in between each take. They must have done 10 or 12 takes of each
segment of the scene. I couldn't hear it so I don't know the lines.
And there had to be about 100 extras they kept filing in and out in an orderly
fashion. Peter Jackson does have an eye for every little detail.

The full inside of the mall looks incredible. Best it's
looked in years. It's going to look amazing on film. Couldn't bring
my camera in though.

Mark Wahlberg had to leave early
tonight, so no autographs tonight. Looks like last night was the time to
get him. I did catch a glimpse of him leaving in a big white
Escalade. Apparently he had to rush off to a charity event in town.

That's all to report. Big crowds of people outside the mall
each night. I'm guessing at least a hundred were still there when I left
at 8 still waiting for a glimpse of anyone. It's probably the most
exciting thing that's happened to this town ever.

I was hanging outside the Mac Dade Mall tonight. I live close by. Mark
Wahlberg did come out and greet fans. He probably signed about a hundred
autographs if not more, and posed for pics with fans. Very acessible guy and
very cool. Got to get an autograph and shake hands with him. Here's a couple of
pics of him signing tonight.

Heard about Susan Sarandon sightings
yesterday. She did not greet the fans, but did wave to them from afar. Michael
Imperioli was also spotted last night leaving the mall and getting into a truck
to go back to his hotel.

You can't get too close to the mall to see
inside. Big screens are up in front of the center doors. But you could walk
around the parking lot. Security and police were there, but they weren't being
mean. I do also believe I got a glimpse of Peter Jackson from afar going back
into the mall. I threw in a few more pics of the mall and of a few extras
hanging outside in their 70's garb.

I have no pics of the inside of the
mall, but I did see it last week. It is amazing. It's going to look great on
film.

Malvern set is done with and McDade Filming

They wrapped shooting in Malvern on Thursday and have already begun
restoring the houses back to 2007. I was at my sister's house (Queens Ave)
yesterday and there was scaffolding at 2 of the houses. I don't know if they
actually used the snow or not. The scenes I saw being filmed were of the Salmon
family - dad, daughters, son - driving down the road in their orange station
wagon. They were getting ready to shoot another scene at the Salmon house, but
they were shoveling and blowing all the snow off the front lawn. I saw someone
with a sprinkler, too, I guess trying to melt the snow. I didn't stick around
long enough to see which scene. On Tuesday, I was THIS CLOSE to meeting Mark
Wahlberg. I was about 20 feet away from him. He was waiting in his car for the
next scene and the driver turned around in the driveway right in front of us. He
did smile and wave at us, but I guess it was too cold for him to get out and say
hello (thought he'd be used to the cold, being from Boston and all!) The
security guard told me if I wanted him to stop and take a pic, I should bring
one of my kids down with me. SO, I returned after lunch with my son and neice -
bundled up in scarves, hats, mittens, boots, etc. We stood outside for about an
hour waiting. This girl comes onto the set dressed to the nines, high-heeled
boots, skirt, matching scarf and gloves - stands on the set in the cold for 5
minutes and then had the guts to just walk up to M's car to get a photo with
him. The PA walked her down there (someone she knew knows M's driver or
something like that). The security guard was so p.o.ed - he said if she had just
stayed up on the corner with us, Mark would have probably gotten out of the car
and we could have all gotten pics. I was ready to kill her!!!! Oh well. Story of
my life. While we were standing there b/t scenes, PJ walked by us about 5 feet
away. On his way back, he was facing us and he smiled and kind of gave us a head
nod. Pretty cool. I'm too wimpy to actually say anything or ask for anything, so
a smile was enough for me. My family thinks I'm crazy for "stalking" but I
wasn't really. When else will I ever have this kind of opportunity???? :)

Little tidbit. I went out to lunch today and saw some of those yellow TLB
signs. I thought, what the heck I would follow them. Took me to a staging area,
from there I saw another sign that said "set" I followed that, went past another
sign that said crew parking. Tons of cars parked at a church. I continued to
follow to the filming location. Nothing really to see here. Only interesting
point is its a location that has never been discussed on your board, the IMDB
board or anywhere else. The township is Uwchlan, PA. I suspect they are filming
either a corn field scene here or maybe something at a farm house. There was a
big white tent set up, a catering truck and all the requisite rental trucks and
trailers. Cops wouldn't let me down the street. I did snap a few bad pics
through the windshield before I was turned around. They are at the intersection
of Eagle Hunt Road and Eagle Farms Road.

If Lifetime bites on The
Verdict, the drama series will be shot here, says Gary Goodman, an executive
vice president of Lionsgate, the production company. He says camera crews will
set up all over downtown, including City Hall and Old City, tomorrow through
Dec. 12.
The Verdict, not to be confused with the 1982 Paul Newman movie, stars Amick - most recently on the
short-lived CBS drama Viva Laughlin after turns on ER, Joey, Twin Peaks and
Gilmore Girls - as a newlywed, newly hired assistant district attorney from a
blue-blood family. The plots will twist on the battle of "old money against new
society," Goodman says.
In the plot, Amick's character (Christine)
prosecutes an Oprah Winfreyesque TV personality named Ayira (played by Givens)
who is accused of murdering her lover. Director Mark Piznarski most recently did
the pilot for the CW's Gossip Girl.
"Philadelphia works creatively,
economically and visually," says Goodman, citing the help of the Greater
Philadelphia Film Office and the state's new tax incentives for producers.
Writer Jon Maas had situated the story in New York, Goodman says, but
Pennsylvania made it more attractive.

Coatesville Filming

THE LOVELY BONES IS FILMING AT DD Family Restaurant on Coatesville, Pa. They seem to be shooting scenes involving a bluescreen so these scenes will feature some CGI. Wait is that fake snow I see?!?!?!?

Peter Jackson and crew are setting up to film at the DD Diner on business
route 30 in Coatesville tonight. The base camp is on the campus
of Coatesville Senior
High School.There is a flashing sign near the diner that say route 30 will be
closed from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM.They have the usual equipment on site along with
the 70s cars we've seen in all the photos.I walked up the street taking pictures
and was approach by a very rude angry old security guard,who yelled at me to
leave. It's amazing how mean these rent-a-cops can be. I may attempt to walk up there tonight
to see the filming, if I can get past the minions of Allied Barton security
goons.

My son and I watched the filming at the DD Diner last night. All scenes shotwere dramatic (no action). I saw Mr. Jackson directing and the only otherperson I could recognize was Rachel Weisz. There were scenes being shot in front of a blue screen as you can see just to the left in the photo.They were still shooting when we left at 1:30 AM.

Was driving through Coatesville, just outside downtown and they were
filming at a diner right near the highschool around 5pm Fri. Was a major set!
Lights, cranes, crowd of 70's extras, vintage cars and the diner was taken over
by Hollywood and their trucks. Didn't have my camera, really drove into a total
surprise. I live near the school they filmed at and was prepared for that
invasion. Didn't think that downtown Coatesville would make the movie, although
it is quite ahhh… vintage!

Long story short, I went over to the Lovely Bones filming again tonight,
with my accomplice L. After getting kicked out of one area by a grouchy rent a
cop (where there was NO security or even a barricade by the way) we ended up in
front of AnnaMarie's place with a large crowd of locals. They were about to
film, the crew and police were there insisting "NO PICTURES" so I put my camera
away. They were wetting down the street and had some 70s cars ready to be
filmed, one of them a police car. Then, out of nowhere Mark Wahlberg appeared in
front of the crowd. He said he wanted to say hello and thank the town for having
him or something like that. He even signed some autographs, and people on
balconies started snapping pictures, but no one on the ground dared to with a
flash because of security. Then when Mark walked away, people were walking
toward him for autographs I got out my phone, and took this crappy picture. A
security guard then got in my face, pointed at me and yelled really loud, "GO
HOME! GO HOME NOW!" So I got kicked off the set for this crappy picture. Mark
Wahlberg is a nice guy, much nicer than a cranky rent a cop.

I stood out in the freezing cold on the edge of the set for over six hours
last night. What the hell is wrong with me????

But it was worth it!

Sorry these shots aren't better. He was moving fast, it was relatively
dark, people kept moving in front of my camera, and let's face it...I'm
definitely no professional photographer.The security men there were the surliest
I've ever encountered. As soon as he came walking up to us, they started
screeching, "Put your camera away NOW!" People were taking pictures, anyway.Mark
Wahlberg was way cool and so nice to the gawkers, as always. He signed about
thirty autographs but had to get back to the set. He kept apologizing to
everyone for not being able to stop and pose for pictures and for not
personalizing his autographs. He was only with us for about three minutes, then
he had to go back down to the next block where his scene was being filmed. They
must have done at least a dozen takes on this one scene where he gets hit by a
car. There was a padded mat on the street by the curb, and we watched him
pretend to walk into the path of a car and then tumble onto the ground over and
over again.

Big shout-out to Giovanni's at 5th and Main in Royersford--they carted out
a stack of piping-hot pizzas and fed all of the gawker holdouts around 1 a.m.
Yummy!

He gave out autographs though for a few of us. Talked to a set insider and they
said Royersford looks like a place you would want to leave, which is why it was
chosen. What a horrible view of this town!

I somehow managed to infiltrate the "backlot" of the set late this afternoon.
I guess I picked a good time to do it...everyone was on their lunch break! I
spent over two hours sitting on a wall in the parking lot of the Royersford
Police Station, looking out over a section of Main Street. They didn't do ANY
filming during my time there. Unbelievable, isn't it?! Two hours of set-up...can
you imagine? There were all kinds of huge light fixtures positioned throughout
the set, and several smoke/dry ice machines were pumping out steam onto Main
Street. Techs and assistants and extras and locals were milling around, chatting
and hoping to catch a glimpse of someone important.Truth be told, I actually got
bored after a while. After
watching the filming of The Happening a few months ago, I have decided that
moviemaking is an unbearably tedious process.By 6:30, I was positive that my ass
was frostbitten, so I headed home. I had no feeling in my feet or my fingers,
despite my gloves and heavy socks. Anyway, I didn't see any movie stars tonight,
but I did catch a few glimpses of Peter Jackson (not close enough for a
worthwhile photograph) and also a man who looked suspiciously like Steven
Spielberg. Hmmm...

If you head over tomorrow, I highly suggest saying you're going to Lebow
furniture. The front windows have 70's furniture in them but they are open for
business, and their huge front windows are literally 15 feet from the action,
facing the house/bar/and bus stop, which are all being used for the movie. The
church at the corner of 4th and Church St. is housing the wardrobe, and I saw
actors coming from there too! The renta cops definitely let the coat get to
their head, but if you're innovative enough, it's not hard to get up close. You
can take great pics from the furniture store too! I said I was taking pics of
furniture to decide on...but..Peter Jackson was 10 feet from Lebow's front door.
If you make friends with a couple of residents on main street...you easily can
get front seats to the best show Rofo has to offer (at least this week).
Calhoun's is holding an invitation only event for residents and cast. Will any
cast actually show?

Just took some shots today on my way into work, driving through Royersford.
It looks different now that they made some facade changes to some buildings. I
will try to take more today on my way home. The main focus is on Main Street
around 3rd Avenue. For anyone that know the area, the Reporter office was
changed to the Fairfax County Register. An accounting office is now Wynn's
Tavern and Game Room. The PT Gas & Go and Bus Depot Cafe are at the corner
where an auto detail place is. Allen's old Variety Store, now called Open Door,
still has Allen's on the front, but now has signs for fountain sodas. They also
have some equipment in front of the Lebow's outlet store, they may be changing
the front of that as well. Cunningham's Electronics got a new sign out front as
well. I will try to get a shot of the 70's era Smokey the Bear billboard on the
side of the Reporter building.

I went into Royersford this morning around 9:00 am to see if anything was
going on with the Lovely Bones filming. I did not see any actors, but there was
lots of equipment being set up and many Paramount trucks parked around town. I
did see Peter Jackson arrive in a silver Mercedes SUV. He is in this picture, in
the green jacket pointing down the street. I will post the rest of the pictures
on Flickr today. One of
the union guys actually gave a woman next to me part of the daily sheet that had
the filming schedule on it. I think they were going to start filming at 11:30
but I had to leave to pick up my kids. Otherwise I would have been there all day
gawking!

When I got home from work I went to the filming set that is 1 block from my house. I can't beleive what it looks like. Today they had brought some of the 1970's cars for the movie. I had taken some pictures that I'll post either my blog or on Photobucket.com under GRMU99 I'm going to take off from work tomorrow and Thursday to see it.

Taken this evening. Some not so great...sorry!This story takes place in 1970s suburban Philadelphia, and the level of details that went into making Main Street in Royersford (which will be the fictional town of Fairfax in the movie) look the part really impresses me. All the storefronts in a four-block stretch have been done up with authentic (or at least authentic-looking) props. From what I've gathered, filming starts tomorrow. Security was EVERYWHERE and parking was sparse. Pretty much all street and lot parking is off-limits within a three-block radius of Main Street.

The past few days they are shooting again at the stage in Hatfield.

SET REPORT AND PHOTOS THE ROYERSFORD SET WHERE THEY WILL BE FILMING Nov 28th-30th.

On my way to Target today I snapped a few pics of the Lovely Bones action
on Main Street in Royersford. I sat in traffic waiting for a truck of Hollywood
porta-potties to go through. I guess the stars have to go like the rest of us.
Main Street will be closed off at 9:00 am tomorrow morning according to a giant
electronic sign next to the train station. I might be heading over there when
the kiddos are at school...it would be nice to see Dirk Diggler. There were also
1970's cars being delivered, as well as lighting and wires being set up. I will
post more pictures to my flickr account later today, hopefully tomorrow will be
more interesting.

I read an article (can't remember where) filming will take place Wednesday,
November 28. However, Calhoun's Jeweler is also holding an invitation only
reception for the cast memmbers and local business men/women Thursday, November
29, so I am guessing it may be a 2-3 day filming. Also, it is my understanding
that Main Street will be blocked off from 4th to 3rd Avenue but they may be
filming as far down as the RR tracks. Exciting stuff!!!!!

MacDade Mall

I ventured into the MacDade Mall today! There really isn't a lot to see
just yet. They still have a lot of work to do in the next two weeks. But can I
just say that this mall has NEVER looked better!!! I really wish that these
stores existed and that the mall contained this kind of brightness like it did
10-15 years ago!! I remember when this mall was full of life and when I was
walking around even though it was so quiet and only a handful of people ventured
throughout it just really made me miss the good old days!! That being said I
decided like a dork to take a few photos! I figured this is a once in a lifetime
chance to see something like this and god only knows once the filming is
complete who knows what will be left of it. They will begin filming the second
week of decemeber for 3 nights only. They will film after hours when the mall is
closed (generally that would be around 5 or 6 p.m.). Stores that I did not take
photos of were a News Stand and a shoe store. They are recreating a toy shop,
menswear store, a woman's shop, Barber Shop and a sandwich shop as you will see
in the photos. New lights have been placed and it looks like a few plant pots
and fountains may also be added! Some of the stores have boxes stacked and I
would assume this is the "merchandise". They will shoot from mid mall down. So
only 1/2 the mall will be recreated. I hope you enjoy the photos. And hopefull
as shooting nears I can get some more photos of what is completed.

Here is a set report from goofenslaffer:

Last night, the area was ablaze with activity, this time on a side street
just south of the school. This country road has houses along it that date back
to the 1940s and 50s. There was a crew of at least 100, tons of equipment and
bright lights lit up the area once again. There were two Panaflex cameras ready,
one mounted on a motorized cart. Although I had my camera ready, there was no
place to pull off the road to observe the filming and security whisked me out of
there in a hurry, yelling "no pictures". Peter Jackson was there, preparing to
direct the cameras into position. As of late this afternoon, They are done!
Gone! Alas, this unique experience has come to an end. My only regret is that I
didn't take more pictures. I don't expect to see this kind of excitement in my
neighborhood for a long time to come. However, there is a good film to look
forward to this summer.

I don't know if you want to use these photos, but I took them Friday
morning.Thursday night, Jackson and crew was filming at this house. I was
unableto get any pictures that night because security was so damned tight.This
is the house they were filming at. By yesterday afternoon, the crew was
completelygone from the township. The film crew has moved back to Malvern and
startedfilming again last night. They will be filming Monday, Tuesday &

Hey here is a set report and photos from the school set:

Last night, the film crew was shooting a scene in the cornfield behind
the school. A crew member said it's the scene where the police discover the body
of the murdered girl. The whole area was lit up by powerful lights, some on
booms eighty feet up in the air. It was quite foggy and hard to make out what
was going on, but I could clearly hear Mr. Jackson yelling "ready, action", then
"cut" a moment or two later. I only managed to take a couple of pictures before
my camera batteries died. The corn field and the athletic field behind the
school are a muddy mess, due to all the trucks and equipment being shuffled back
and forth in the rain.

I live a mile and a half away. They're still filming right now, on the
athletic field behind South Middle school. They're also filming in the adjacent
neighborhood behind the school. They have spotlights set up in front of my
daughter's kindergarten teachers home and all around the block. I was amazed on
how much equipment they have on site. The security is extremely tight, as you'd
expect. Looks like Mr. Jackson has a blank check from Paramount on this
project.

Just letting you know that we have a bird's eye view of the school that
they are filling TLB in East Fallowfield. They trucked in bunches of equipment
to The South Brandywine Middle School and at least 2 retro 1970's cop cars...
bunches of stuff going on and starting before 7am and departing between 5-6pm
tonight - long days - exciting stuff - we can send you some photos from the
front of the school - we aren't sure and "what is your experience" of being able
to just stroll over as locals to catch some action? If you want to come camp out

Hello,

I came across your blog, because the other day I saw these Hollywood
trailers in my town. Word traveled and I found out that they are doing some
filming for The Lovely Bones in a warehouse in my town Hatfield. I found an
article in the local newspaper, and they said that the set was closed. I just
wanted to know whether or not there would be any opportunity to catch any sort
of glimpse of some of the big names tied to this project. I mean, Steven
Spielberg in Hatfield, PA is probably the biggest thing in the history of the
town. I'm not trying to go around snooping, although I did drive past the set
and found that security was pretty lax. (deleted) But seriously, Steven
Spielberg and Mark Wahlberg. . . ten minutes down the street just completely
blows my mind.

OK, OK, OK stop sending all the e-mail about me posting exact filming locations. I don't feel like reading anymore of them. Ok, I really only got 4 but still. Here's the deal, last week the a member of the production team contacted me and requested me not to post exact filming locations due to an "incident" they had on set last weekend, involving some fans. So due to that I will not be posting exact filming locations out of respect to the filmmakers. I still will post towns but once you get to the town you have to find it yourself.

Hatfield Set

TLB cast and crew is filming in a wharehouse in Hatfield, Pa. Thanks to Chancey Gardener for the report and photos:

Drove by the set of The Lovely Bones in Hatfield, PA today and took a few pix
(not great but looks like the fans on IMDB are ravenous for any
info).

I expected to see more people hanging out but there really
was nothing to see. There were people milling around behind the warehouse
and trailers but didn’t catch any of the stars. Didn’t seem to be much
security around. One of the trailers had a full gym in it with exercise
equipment. Can’t imagine it was props for the movie.

In one
of the pix, you can see the same red Mustang that was in Malvern/Paoli last
week.
One of the pix (sorry for the shakey cam) is the same woman in blue
from last week. Is that Rachel? She ran away as I tried to take the
picture.
The other pix are the lunch tent for the crew and the trailers for
the stars.

I spoke to someone who visited the set and they told me
that they built an actual house (exterior and all) inside this warehouse.
Not sure why since they were doing exteriors last week. Maybe they’re
doing SPFX shots to recreate weather? I saw the pix you posted last week
of the sinkhole and it appears they’re going to use CGI to recreate it.

This is about Saturdays filming location, it is from IMDB:

They were at an abandoned farm today in Chester Springs that is owned
by Toll Bros...filming outside the farmhouse. They started around noon when the
rain finally stopped. They will be back in early december to the same location
for 3 days. Security was very tight - but we did get to see a little of the
action - before getting the boot.

Film crew transforms Chesco neighborhood

Ready for its 1970s close-up.

Inquirer Staff Writer

Hollywood has come to a suburban street in Willistown Township and,
through its transformative magic, succeeded in making the thoroughfare even more
suburban.
The effect, done for the shooting of the movie The Lovely Bones,
is to rewind the street back to the 1970s.

Up went the rooftop TV antennas and out went the modern patio
furniture. In its place: white wicker with worn fabric cushions and aluminum
folding chairs with striped, plastic webbing.
Even the trash got special
treatment: dented metal cans replaced today's plastic variety.
After
reviewing about 75 sites, DreamWorks Studios selected the street as one of
several locales in the Philadelphia area for the film.

The Lovely Bones, to be distributed by Paramount Pictures, was adapted
from Alice Sebold's best-seller by Peter Jackson, a multiple Oscar-winner for
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The story revolves around a
14-year-old girl who is raped and killed and who looks down from heaven on what
happens to her family afterward.

The site boasts a connection to Sebold, who grew up in Paoli and
attended Great Valley High School. The author, though never saying outright that
the novel is set here, dots the story with references to Norristown, Chadds Ford
and Route 202.

Sharon Pinkenson, who heads the Greater Philadelphia Film Office and
who loved Sebold's novel, said she first contacted one of the producers in July
2003, initiating a "passionate" four-year pitch to have the movie shot
here.

"It's always best creatively to shoot where the story is set,"
Pinkenson said.

Landing the movie, she said, ultimately produced "a huge win" for the
region.

She said the film would inject $60 million into the region through
direct and indirect spending. Sixty percent of the approximately 150-member crew
is from the area.

Pinkenson said the region's allure to moviemakers has been boosted by
$75 million in state film-tax credits approved in July as well as by plans for
two film studios, one in Norristown and one at a site that has not yet been
announced.

Eight to 10 film projects have landed in Chester County in the last
several years - two by local filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, she said. Until this
latest surge of movie-making, The Blob, a 1957 sci-fi classic starring Steve
McQueen, was generally regarded as Chester County's cinematic high point.

In the case of Willistown's 50-year-old neighborhood, some serious
tweaking took place before filming began on Monday. About 20 split-level houses
were treated to a face-lift that, down to the smallest detail, created a look
more evocative of 1970s suburbia .

Balancing her 16-month-old daughter Ally on her hip, Moira Banister
said she and her neighbors had to sign off on the changes and received
compensation from the filmmakers commensurate with their level of
involvement.

"It's been fun watching the changes," Carol Anderson whispered.

She kept her voice low because Jackson was filming a dog-walking scene
down the block, and a gaggle of security people had just shushed the small group
of onlookers.

"We couldn't have asked for a more hospitable community to shoot in,"
said Claire Raskind, the film's publicist.

Fans elsewhere in the Philadelphia region craving a glimpse of their
favorite stars - including Susan Sarandon, Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Michael
Imperioli and Stanley Tucci - will be disappointed. The set is closed to all but
residents, cast and crew, and it is secured by Willistown police officers.

"They've been great," said Banister, who baked a batch of brownies in
appreciation.

She said the major downside of her neighborhood's brush with fame had
been the periodic inconvenience of not being able to walk, park, or drive in
certain areas. Only vintage cars are visible, and one block is lined with trucks
and equipment such as lighting balloons, 15-foot-long inflatables that provide
ambient illumination.

The access to the action offsets the negatives, neighbors agreed.

An added perk: The film crew rakes leaves, stockpiling them in case a
scene needs to be reshot after the foliage has changed.

Banister said neighbors who barely knew one another were now trading
thoughts about what scenes will make the final cut and how they can juggle
requests from family and friends for visits.

Mary Gallen of Wayne made advance reservations.

She moved to the home of her daughter, Kelly Hennessy, on Sunday night.
By Tuesday, she had been joined by her cousin Margaret Dolan of Rosemont.
"I
thought it was so interesting that I suggested she come over," Gallen said as
Dolan fixed her binoculars on Jackson.

Conestoga students Dan McKinney, 18, of Wayne, and Henry Rome, 16, of
Strafford, who work for the school newspaper and TV station, got turned away at
one blockade but succeeded in grabbing some images and interviews with
spectators without violating a second security point.
McKinney said their
perseverance was prompted by their teacher's mandate: "This is a big story; we
need team coverage."

I went down to the set the other day on Bryan Road in Malvern. You can see
a little of the set but there is security and police blocking the entrance to
the street. However, both the security and police were pleasant and I was able
to get a glimpse of them setting up for a scene. It would have been nice to see
the actors. Does anyone know where they are staying this week while
filming?

Set Report #2:

Theyre filming on Queens Ave which is just off Paoli Pike. Its very easy to
spot beings all the cop cars surrounding the neighborhood. Its not completely
closed, you can walk down the streets just not drive. Currently they are just
filming extras and basic street shots... no stars just yet. Its very neat I
reccomend stopping by and checking the neighborhood out its very
70's.

What a strange notion. As far as I know, the last scene from a movie filmed
in Royersford was from "The Blob". As people ran out of the famous Colonial
Theater, they ran around a corner, which then changed towns completely. People
are seen running around the corner of what is now Annamarie's at the corner of
Fourth and Main.Next month, November, the film crews will once again swarm to
our quiet little town to work on some scenes for the movie "The Lovely Bones".
Residents of Royersford have received a letter from the Borough stating that in
November, Main Street will be closed between 3rd and 4th Avenues, and this block
will be used in the film. Anyone who has read the book may know more about what
scenes may be filmed there.

Just over a year into his job, this former mayor and borough manager of Conshohocken is focusing on the basics of municipal government — cracking down on building code violations, sprucing up downtown with plants and new cement, and finding ways to finance improvements to the sewer treatment plant.“I’m used to it. I’ve done it before. It’s just a matter of sorting things out,” Leonard said.An early problem he noticed upon taking the job in September 2006 was a lack of building code enforcement and accompanying standards. So Borough Council hired Pennoni & Associates, a professional engineering firm which can deploy its own team of code inspectors.For whatever reason, strict and regular
enforcement lagged in the past. Fire code violations, in addition to smaller
infractions like accumulated trash in front of properties, should become a thing
of the past once inspections begin in January or February, according to
Leonard.A lead engineer with the firm, Khaled Hassan, P.E., also serves as
Limerick’s township engineer.“We needed somebody who was going to be a little
more aggressive,” Leonard said. “It’s important that we have a safe place for
people to live.”Land surrounding the Schuylkill River is one area targeted for
future improvements in Royersford. A one mile walking/biking trail that could
eventually connect with Upper Providence is in the works. Two residential
developments in the same vicinity — River Park and Riverfront — will boast more
than 400 condominiums and apartments once construction finishes.Also on the
riverfront, Leonard said there is a good chance of securing a Pennsylvania Fish

Spring-Ford School District will contribute to the painting, Leonard said.Then

Fourth avenues, but Leonard sees “a need to brighten up the town a little
bit.”Short-term revitalization efforts include potted plants along Main Street
and the resurfacing of sidewalks. Looking down the road further, Leonard would
like to welcome a new restaurant or bar to the neighborhood. A nighttime fixture
could liven up the town once the sun sets, since Royersford is relatively quite
after 6 p.m., he pointed out.Sales tax revenue is steady but more is needed to
fund improvements. The Borough Council is reviewing options for funding $2.5
million in sewer treatment plant upgrades.“The borough hasn’t had much income
coming in,” the manager said.As a result, staff positions are limited. Leonard
and Donna Zigler, the borough’s administrative assistant, are pretty much it at
city offices. Then there are public works personnel, police officers, volunteer
parks and recreation personnel and few others.Getting work done electronically
is a little bit easier thanks to a $10,000 technology grant secured by state

trailors, cranes, etc, occupying about 3 blocks of a residential areain Paoli,
PA. We saw what I assume was the "Salmon" house, which is a70s era brown
and white ranch style home with an old basketball net inthe front. We saw
Peter Jackson outside giving direction, and somenon-famous cast members in
70s-style costumes. They were filming someoutdoors scenes with "Holiday"
the dog, who is a gorgeous blonde mix ofwhat looked to be golden retriever and
labrador. There are alot of oldcars up and down the streets-- bugs and
mustangs. It looked verysimilar to the setting of "The Wonder
Years."

Mark Wahlberg should buy a place here already. The actor, who just wrapped "The Happening" with M. Night Shyamalan, is returning to shoot Peter Jackson's "The Lovely Bones," based on Alice Sebold's book.

Variety reported yesterday that Wahlberg replaces Ryan Gosling as the father of a girl who is raped and murdered and looks down on her family from heaven.
A "Lovely Bones" spokeswoman cited the old "creative differences," as to why Gosling, currently in the excellent "Lars and the Real Girl," had been replaced.
Wahlberg has shot "Invincible," "Shooter" and "The Italian Job," here. His "Bones" co-stars include Rachel Weisz, Michael Imperioli, Stanley Tucci and Susan Sarandon. The movie shoots in Malvern this week and will film locally for about six weeks.

Welcome to the new blog for The Lovely Bones movie. I am running this blog after read the script for this film and seeing how great it is. I wanted to keep all you film buffs up to date on this movie. Philly has been host to 2 really cool movies this fall M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening (opening this coming June) and now Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones. I also run thehappeningmovie.blogspot.com, which has all the up to date info on The Happening.
